At the Informal Negotiations (IGN) on United Nations Security Council reform, the Maldives welcomed the presentation of the African Model and called for credible reforms that address Africa’s historical injustices, including representation in the permanent category. The Maldives also emphasized that any reform must ensure fair cross-regional representation, including adequate space for Small Island Developing States, to create a more balanced and representative global governance system.
